Thank you!

Oh well, we gave it our best shot but it simply wasn't to be.

We always knew it would be tough to get re-elected in a local election on the same day as the general election, and despite our best efforts, we didn't quite make it. Darren was re-elected in Brockley ward, but we've been reduced from a group of 6 Green councillors down to just one. It was very close for the third placed councillor in the end, with Charlotte just 60 votes shy of getting elected.

Congratulations to Vincent, Helen and Tim, the new councillors for Ladywell. You can see the results in full here. Ladywell again had one of the highest turnouts in the borough, at 64.3%.

On a brighter note, the clear high point in an otherwise gloomy night for Greens in Lewisham was seeing Green Party leader Caroline Lucas elected as MP for Brighton Pavilion.

Thank you to everyone who supported us and the kind messages we've received in the past day or so. It is gutting to put so much work in to something only to lose, but that's politics. It was an honour to serve as a local councillor in Ladywell for four years, and I learnt a huge amount over that period. I'm proud of the work we've done, and hope to stay involved in the community as a local resident. I'm also looking forward to spending more time going out and having fun, rather than being stuck in meetings at the town hall until 10pm!

We're having drinks for everyone who helped us with our campaign next Sunday, 16th May, at Mr Lawrence Wine Bar, Brockley Road, Crofton Park, from 4-9pm. All supporters welcome.

Not quite sure what will happen with this blog, whether we'll just leave it like this, or pick it up again at some point down the line, but we'll keep it up here for now as snapshot of some of the work we did.

Well done for all your hard work, Sue.
I think you should keep the blog going, from a Green perspective if not from a council perspective. There's still plenty to say on local issues ...

And it's not all bad - you can devote more time to winning pub quizzes now!!

As you say, you did all you could. Well done for all your hard work!

At least you can take some solace from the remarkable election of Caroline in Brighton.

maybe you shouldn't have been so wishy-washy with your support for/ against the plans at Gordonbrock Primary? I know a lot of people, myself included, who voted for you last time but decided not to this time because of your ever-changing stance on this key local issue.

Sue, have a rest, have some fun, but don't give up on the blog (or the tweets or Facebook).

Best Wishes, Sue. Lewisham's a better place, thanks to the efforts of people like you (from every Party!). I hope you will keep posting your reports to LoveLewisham (I need you to try-out our Blackberry App!)

Thanks for you all your support & constructive criticism
Nigel.

Sue just wanted to say I can empathise with how you feel. The Green Party in Lewisham campaigned with humility and engagement; I don't think I have ever come across a group of activists who were so kind, sweet and happy to help other other activists from differnet parties during an election. On a personal note, you always placed kind comments on my blog.

Take care and keep campaigning. Best wishes Paul.

Next time. Next time. I very much look forward to sitting on the council with you in 2014. :) Charlotte.

I'm sorry you guys didn't make it. The council will be poorer without you.

Really sorry you lost - i know exactly how gutted you must feel...

Just like in Scotland in 2007, if the election narrative is against you there is not a lot you can do...

Sue, so sorry that you were not re-elected, as you so deserved to. Lewisham council and this corner of the borough whill be much poorer for the loss, and the consolidated domination of the council by Labour is not good for local democracy.

I hope you decide to keep the blog going, but if not please do keep in touch.

P.s. and just to agree with the above commenters that the Greens fought a fantatic campaign around here - you all certainly did do all you could.

This is terrible news, what a loss. Things seem so sudden in London, my council has elections by thirds, so slow to gain and loose seats.

Please keep blogging, tell us news from Ladywell.

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm afraid I've been rather parochial and am just catching up.
As Captain Darling said in Blackadder - "Bugger"!

I am still struggling to get my head around results - your passion and actions to bring about a fairer, greener society will be sorely missed. Huge thanks for all your hard work and for inspiring many including me - hope you manage a well deserved break and come back again very soon!
