Brookbank Road and Hilly Fields Crescent resurfacing works to start tomorrow

Highways have contacted us to let us know that the long-awaited resurfacing works on Brookbank Road are starting tomorrow (Tuesday 5th January), and Hilly Fields Crescent on 11th January. I'm told that just the section of Brookbank Road between Hilly Fields Crescent and Shell Road is being done, but all of Hilly Fields Crescent. I suspect this is because it is the section on the bus route, and it is the top half of Brookbank that is in the worst state.

Residents in those streets should have got a letter through their doors a few days ago asking them to move their cars. The 484 bus route will be diverted along Montague Avenue and Adelaide Avenue while the works take place.

It's BRILLIANT news that this is finally going to get done. In its current state, it's a bit of an exaggeration to call the Western end of Brookbank a 'road'.

However, I fear they may have chosen a bad week to commence work, what with the snow coming and everything... could get messy!

Hmm, if I recall correctly, it was after the bad weather in January last year that the road really deteriorated, so I'm hoping the same isn't going to happen as soon as this is redone. And I guess if we get the snow that is forecast things may well be delayed a bit.

As far as I can see, they filled in the two very worst pot holes on the road yesterday (the ones which were their own making, I might add!) but haven't started the full resurfacing yet.

The information I've had from the Highways team says they're actually going to completely dig up and replace the surface, not just put a new surface over the top. So, as long as they do a good job, it's unlikely the road will break up again after cold weather.

But yes, can't see them starting proper until after this week. Would be nice to know for sure, though - residents are still under instruction not to park on the road.

In case any residents are wondering what's occurring, I received this from the Highways team at Lewisham today (11/01):

"Yes the surfacing has been held up by the weather. We're not sure how long this weather is going to last but as soon as we have a revised programme we will do another letter drop to residents giving the new dates."

Update on this - on 9th February they are closing Brookbank Road to carry out some interim repairs.

The full reconstruction work will now not take place until "April/May", which is disappointing.
