Sue and I haven’t disappeared – on the contrary, the blog has gone quiet recently because we’ve just been too busy!
Amongst other things, feedback is still due from the first meeting of the new Ladywell Assembly. It was a positive meeting with lively discussions around the tables about the local issues people are concerned about and how these could be addressed. Attendance was lower than we had hoped, but we’ll make sure future meetings don’t clash with football or any other major event!
The issues that were raised were unsurprisingly familiar: the top three were various traffic issues (parking and traffic flows, as well as making streets more pedestrian and cycle friendly), the need for more community facilities and in particular youth provision from leisure activities to life skills, and much needed improvements to the local shopping parades (empty shops, shop fronts, the streetscape in general, encouraging more local shopping). All of these of course have a direct impact on the look and feel of the area.
This is not a comprehensive list but all issues raised will come back to the next Assembly to be prioritised and for action plans to be developed, in addition to the ongoing activities and projects that have already been started in the ward over the past few years prior to the assemblies being launched in the borough.
The next meeting of the Assembly is going to take place on Wednesday, 8 October from 7-9pm in the modern block of Prendergast School on Adelaide Avenue and we’d like to see many of you there. The meeting will also consider this year’s Localities Fund of £10,000 to be spent in the ward - we’ll shortly start consulting on this.
