This means that there is NO REAL ECONOMIC REASON for anything! eg: there is no real economic reason why we cannot feed, clothe, house, educate and employ every person alive on the Earth today, AND be 100% environmentally sustainable too ! Oh, and by the way, there is no real economic reason why Lewisham council has to sell this beautiful old building, or why they cannot renovate (and insulate!) it for community use . . .Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00471032026688716846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24691627.post-46260987267972402662011-02-15T08:48:11.849+00:002011-02-15T08:48:11.849+00:00This is yet another community resource and histori...This is yet another community resource and historic building that is going. This is all part of Lewisham's cuts effectively or what the FT likes to call 'fiscal consolidation'. Just looking along Ladywell Road, on the one hand we have a sensitive conversion of the old police station, preserving the original building, then a bit further up the Adhesives building was recently knocked down because the owner did the maths and reckoned he could get more money cramming new flats on there than converting the old building.

I think the likelihood of anyone even submitting a proposal for listing to English Heritage before the auction next week, let alone it being accepted, are slim. Personally I would think the buildings' case for listing was at best borderline, but I'm not an expert and often surprised at what they do/don't list.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24691627.post-72259344860867489272011-02-10T10:25:08.733+00:002011-02-10T10:25:08.733+00:00Why do you presume that whoever buys it will want ...Why do you presume that whoever buys it will want to knock it down? The heating bills for a big old building like this are likely to outway those meeting room rentals already.

If selling this building for half a million saves a library or more importantly a few jobs, then all the better.

As for consultancy bills??? Lewisham Free Give Group connects people who are giving and getting unwanted items for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills and, at the same time, helping someone in your community by gifting them the item you no longer need. Another benefit of using Lewisham Freegive is that it encourages poeple to get rid of junk that we no longer need and promote community involvement in the process. By using Lewisham Freegive, not only are you able to get rid of your item with the minimum of fuss; you will also be doing your part in stopping another reusable item ending up in a landfill. It's completely free to join.

Go to Lewisham Freegive Group website: http://www.freegive.co.uk/p/lewisham.htm

Freegive group is active in all London boroughs.
